In a Facebook post, Marsiling-Yew Tee MP Alex Yam referred to Yeo as a “giant in the legal world,” citing his appointment as Senior Counsel in 2000 at the age of 37, the youngest ever.
“While he towered over everyone with his height, he was soft at heart, a big brother who mentored and treated me with tremendous love,” said Mr Yam, who joined politics in 2011 as a member of Chua Chu Kang GRC.
“I discovered out he was unwell at the end of 2020; he was getting treatment at the time, but he remained hopeful, saying he hoped to meet up with a few of us in 2022 when he was completely healed,” Mr Yam continued.
Low Yen Ling, the incumbent Chua Chu Kang GRC MP, claimed Yeo was “like a big brother” to her when she initially joined the GRC in 2011.
“Alvin was always very kind and encouraging; I often looked forward to listening to his thoughtful and insightful speeches in Parliament; his example as a caring MP and colleague would always stay fresh in my heart and mind,” said Ms Low, who is also Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community, and Youth.
Former MP Yee Chia Hsing, who took over Yeo’s district when he stepped down, described Yeo as a “wonderful gentleman” who neighbours remembered warmly.
