The American fantasy comedy film Hocus Pocus 2 was written by Jen D’Angelo, was directed by Anne Fletcher, and was made by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a stand-alone sequel to the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus, and it stars Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, and Hannah Waddingham in new characters in addition to Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Jones reprising their previous roles.
End Credit Scenes
The post-credit scene, which depicts Gilbert’s cat racing throughout the store and stopping in front of a box that reads “BF #2 Candle,” is still possible despite this happy ending.
You already know this, but there is a second Black Flame candle. Unless the candle is connected to another coven of witches that can terrorise Salem, we presume that it signifies that the Sanderson sisters may be brought back at some point.
It’s a clear setup for a third film, and nothing is off the table, but it would be unfortunate to go back on the moving conclusion. We’ll just have to keep an eye on this place to see if the sequel is successful enough to warrant a third film.
1. “Hocus Pocus 2” Easter Eggs: “Come Little Children” and Musical Numbers
The popular “itch-it-a-cop-it-a Melaka-mystica” chant from the first film is played in the “Hocus Pocus 2” trailer, and there are more musical allusions throughout the film. The trio performs “One Way or Another” in “Hocus Pocus 2,” paying homage to the sisters’ iconic performance of “I Put a Spell on You” from the first film and demonstrating that they still possess the magic touch.
Additionally, according to Entertainment Tonight, in a flashback to the sisters’ earlier years, viewers learn the roots of Sarah’s “Come Little Children” chant from the previous movie, with the revelation that the Witch Mother (Hannah Waddingham) initially sung it to them in the Forbidden Woods.
2. “Hocus Pocus 2” Easter Eggs: Halloween Costumes
Costumes in a Halloween-themed film will inevitably have a unique significance, and “Hocus Pocus 2” is no exception. A woman donning a Madonna costume can be spotted in a flash mob that happens during the sisters’ performance of “One Way or Another,” exactly like Max and Dani’s mother did in the original.
In addition, the late Penny and Garry Marshall are mentioned not once, but twice. At one point, a heartfelt tribute to the adored brother-sister combination is made when a clip of their sequence from the original film comes on someone’s TV. Additionally, two dancers appear during the flash mob, one in a devil costume and the other in pyjamas, making an obvious reference to their ” Hocus Pocus” cameo.
3. “Hocus Pocus 2” Easter Eggs: The Black Flame Candle
Both the first and second movies’ central plots revolve around The Black Flame Candle, which also resurrects Winifred, Sarah, and Mary to wreck more havoc in Salem. This time, Becca uses it instead, lighting the candle as she makes an effort to cast a birthday enchantment.
4. “Hocus Pocus 2” Easter Eggs: The Virgin Requirement
The aforementioned Black Flame Candle must be lighted by a virgin in the original “Hocus Pocus,” and the new version of the film makes a small nod to this very archaic requirement. A young bystander queries, “What’s a virgin?” while Gilbert (Sam Richardson), the proprietor of Olde Salem Magic Shoppe, describes how the Black Flame Candle functions. Gilbert replies haltingly, “That is a, um, a person who has never… lighted a candle,” in response. It’s a humorous, playful postscript to one of the more antiquated scenes in the first film.
5. “Hocus Pocus 2” Easter Eggs: The Sanderson Sisters’ House
The Sanderson sisters’ infamous home reappears in the sequel, this time as a magic store called Olde Salem Magic Shoppe. Inside, fans of the original will recognize magical memorabilia including the Black Flame Candle and the spell book. Another fun detail: when young Winifred first acquires the book in the flashback in the beginning of the new movie, the very first spell she notices is a “cat transformation” spell — which, of course, was used in the original to turn Thackery Binx into a black cat.
