Amazon is working on a wall mounted Echo and TV soundbar, as well as updates to its automotive technology and wearable devices, according to a Bloomberg report on Friday, which cites internal documents and sources familiar with the matter. given.
Amazon could expand its line of smart-screen Echo Show devices. According to the article, the company is planning an Alexa-controlled Echo with an approximately 15-inch display that can be mounted on a wall or on a stand. The report says it can serve as a control panel for smart home appliances and can be placed in the kitchen to display recipes or other useful information.
Bloomberg said the company is also planning a soundbar for televisions equipped with a front camera, which could allow users to make video calls from their televisions.
Other products that could be in the works, according to the report, include a second-generation model of its Echo Auto technology and a wider push in wearable devices beyond its Halo fitness tracker, which launched last August. Bloomberg said he is exploring a portable device for children and one for the elderly that can detect falls, among other uses.
Amazon’s home robot, another highly anticipated launch, could be a long way off, according to Bloomberg. Several reports have speculated that the company is working on a voice-controlled robot that can move around the house using built-in cameras. Bloomberg said Amazon has started testing a prototype version of the device, but the robot has raised concerns internally about its viability.
The report comes as Amazon prepares to announce the new devices at an event on September 28. Amazon typically hosts an individual hardware event at its Seattle headquarters, but as of last year, it has hosted an online streaming event. The report adds that some of the devices mentioned by Bloomberg may be announced during the event, while others may be launched later or even removed altogether.
An Amazon spokesperson said the company is not commenting on the rumors or speculation.
