Facebook chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer announced on Wednesday that he would be stepping down from his post.

Schroepfer will move to another part of the company, and in 2022 he will be replaced by Andrew “Boz” Bosworth, who currently heads Facebook’s hardware division.

“It’s a tough decision because of my love for Facebook and my enthusiasm for the future,” Schroepfer wrote on his Facebook profile. “This change of role will allow me to devote more time to my family and my personal philanthropic efforts, while remaining deeply involved in the business by working on important initiatives, including recruiting and developing technical talent and in key technologies such as Puretorch. Will continue to fuel our investment in AI.
